Happy Gotcha Day 2008, Julia!

2008 Gotcha Day Celebration

I'm posting this a day early but sometimes you just have to do things when you can. We celebrated Julia's gotcha day this year not only but at a Mexican restaraunt. We are a little tired of Chinese food at the moment and she loves the cheese dip and rice. I don't think she minded one bit. She had the best time and was absolutely excited about the whole evening. Of course, it's kind of hard to explain to her and Carson that it's not her birthday but the day that she joined our family forever.

Julia... there is so much that I could say but not enough time to say it in. She has come soooooo far and still continues to make such huge strives each and every week. This little girl, who likes to sit back and take everything in without bringing too much attention to herself, slowly but surely has become more and more confident and secure with herself and those around her. She still has her guard up and probably will for some time to come but has been so blessed to be surrounded by friends and family that realize that she does things in her timing. She and Carson are inseperable and are always looking out for each other. These two years have gone by so fast but the memories we have made are forever.

Two years later... Julia does not need to carry her washcloth around anymore, which she has had one in her hands since the first picture we saw of her; loves, loves, loves her Daddy, that bond took well over a year but when it blossomed it was big. Just this week at swimming lessons, I have seen her start to initiate conversations with strangers, such as, "Goodbye, see you on Tuesday". This may seem small but for her it is huge.

We would love to go back to China for another precious girl someday but for now we will keep on watching our little ones flourish. We never expected such a wonderful blessing from adopting. My heart will always weigh heavy for her birth mother and father as I know they think of her often. My prayer is that God will place a peace on their hearts to let them know that their daughter could never be loved more and will always be our special princess or should I say Baby Roo. Julia has named the entire family a character from Winnie the Pooh. Some days I'm Mom and others I'm Momma Kanga.:)
